Another Day, Another School Festival

Ax and I are gonna hit another school’s festival today – they’re calling it a “country fair” – which I think means there will be more farm animal petting opportunities and less big plastic bounce houses than our school’s event. But who knows? I’m a school festival pro now – bring it on, bring on the wild running children, the baked goods, the face paint, the dunk tank, the parents talking about remodeling! I love it all!

Ax is a party guy. He ran and bounced and boogied for four straight hours at our school’s event, with maybe a five-minute sit-down to eat the icing off his cupcake. The cookie he ate on the go. When we got home he announced, “I am not tired at all!”

So it’s party time again today and we’ll enjoy what there is to be enjoyed. Ax will enjoy all the kid-oriented stuff, and I will enjoy watching him enjoy it and facilitating his good time.

It is a delight and honor to be his mother and to get to mother him so intentionally. It’s a quiet kind of privilege I appreciate and enjoy much more when I remember to focus on him rather than on myself. I’m gonna keep going.
